Ceramics Teacher - Freelance
Location: E3 2GY, Hackney Wick
Hours of work: max 8 hours a week
Salary: £15-22/h, based on experience and skills, with potential pay rise as you grow with the studio.
Students: 2-8
We are currently looking for instructors from the following areas:
· Hand building
· Throwing
Responsibilities
Conduct a 6-8 week beginner/intermediate wheel-throwing course, covering skills such as centring, throwing bowls, cups, attaching handles, and crafting small vases, teapots, etc.
Teach 2h taster Wheel Throwing workshops.
To plan, teach and evaluate courses that meet the learning needs of students.
Teach flexibly and creatively that reflecting the advertised course outline.
Provide a course outline, schemes of work, lesson plans and individual project briefs as required.
Support students’ learning by offering guidance and feedback throughout the class.
Encourage students to explore further courses and develop their practice.
Help shape and refine classes to keep them inspiring and true to the studio’s vision.
Any other duties as appropriate to the post.
We hope you:
Knowledge and practical understanding of Asian ceramic techniques and cultural traditions are given priority.
Good communication in English.
A degree, professional qualification or other relevant ceramics experience is preferred.
A thorough and demonstrable knowledge of throwing, hand building, glazing, surface treatment and firing processes.
Have an understanding of and experience in promoting equality and diversity.
Can inspire students to achieve.
Have an understanding of and experience in promoting good customer care.
Can support students to overcome barriers to learning.
Can communicate effectively and listen to others.

Evidence of continuing professional development within your specialist area
Experience of teaching pottery to adults of mixed ability in group settings
