A Space for Learning and Practice

Trace Ceramics Studio is an Asian-inspired pottery studio based in the canal side of Hackney Wick, London. It is a space where people can learn ceramics step by step, regardless of prior experience.

Many of our students come from non-creative backgrounds and start with little or no experience with clay. Through small, structured classes, we guide each person through the fundamentals, from the first contact with clay to building confidence in making independently.

Our courses range from short workshops to longer-term programmes, allowing people to begin at their own pace and gradually develop their skills over time. For those with prior experience, the studio also offers space to continue practicing and refining their work in a more independent way.

Alongside classes, Trace Ceramics operates as a working studio. Through membership, makers can access a fully equipped ceramic space, returning regularly to practice, experiment, and build consistency in their process.

The studio is shaped by a quieter approach to making. Influenced by Asian ceramic traditions, attention is placed on balance, rhythm, and the subtle changes that come through repetition and touch.

Many people come for a first session and choose to stay. Over time, making becomes less about a single experience and more about developing a steady, personal relationship with clay.
