Founder

Meichen Chen holds a Master's degree in Ceramics and Glass(21-23) from the Royal College of Art, and her work was exhibited in the RA Summer Exhibition 2024. With over eight years of experience in ceramic practice and study, she completed her BA in Ceramic Design(Hons) in China before pursuing further research in the UK.

Meichen works across a wide range of techniques, including handbuilding, mould making, and wheel throwing. Her creative focus lies in exploring the relationship between texture and ceramic materials. She has studied traditional ceramic craftsmanship in places such as Jingdezhen, and has also undertaken an artist residency in Finland.

In August 2024, she founded Trace Ceramics Studio in Hackney Wick, London. The studio was born from her deep interest in the aesthetics and philosophy of Asian ceramics, as well as her fascination with the tactile qualities of clay and the conceptual narratives behind texture. Through this space, Meichen hopes to share diverse Asian ceramic techniques and perspectives with people from all over the world.
