Course Overview
This course is perfect for those who have already explored the basics of hand-building and are ready to take on more challenging projects. Over six weeks, we’ll guide you through creating complex pieces, such as objects made by joining two parts together, including lid forms and more intricate shapes. You’ll also learn advanced techniques like the traditional Asian method of throw out clay slabs, which adds unique textures and character to your creations.
To make your pieces truly special, we’ll introduce you to Chinese decorative clay slip, a unique material used for surface decoration, allowing you to explore new ways to finish your work. You’ll also have the opportunity to experiment with various textures, shapes, and surface treatments to develop your personal style.
Each class is kept small, with a maximum of 6 participants, so you’ll receive plenty of individual attention from our experienced instructor. Over the six weeks, you can expect to create between 6-8 unique ceramic pieces, with the option to explore glazes and other finishes in our studio.
If you’re looking to refine your skills and push your creativity further, this course is for you. By the end, you’ll have a greater understanding of advanced hand-building techniques and will feel confident working independently on more complex projects.

What’s Included:
All clay, glazes, and basic tools are provided during the class. While we encourage creativity, we ask that you only fire the pieces you truly love to support sustainability. The studio will fire 6-8 pieces per student, with each piece no larger than 18cm in diameter and 22cm in height. Larger pieces can be fired for an additional cost.
Tool Kit:
You’ll need an eight-piece pottery tool kit, which can be purchased at the studio for £8 (normally £10). You’re also welcome to bring your own tools if you have them.
Missed Classes:
We regret if you miss a class, we’re unable to offer a replacement session, but we’ll do our best to help you catch up during the next class.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:
Your finished pieces will be ready for collection about 4 weeks after the course ends, but sometimes it may take a little longer. We’ll email you when your work is ready. Please collect your pieces within 4 weeks of receiving the email, as we unfortunately can’t store them for longer. If you are not collected within that time, we’ll give them to charity shops due to limited shelf space.
If you cancel 10 days or more before the course start date, you’ll receive a full refund, be offered a rescheduled course, or be given a gift code to use later, with a £5 booking fee deduction.
For cancellations made 5-9 days before the course, a 50% refund will be issued, and a £5 booking fee deduction.
Unfortunately, cancellations made within 5 days of the course start date are non-refundable.
